Absinthe
History of Absinthe - Absinthe originated in Switzerland in the late 18th century. It rose to great popularity in late 19th century France, particularly among Parisian artists and writers who commonly referred to the spirit as la fee verte (the green fairy.) The consumption of absinthe was opposed by social conservatives and prohibitionists, partly due to its association with bohemian culture. Absinthe is an anise-flavored spirit derived from several plants, including the flowers and leaves of artemisia absinthium (grand wormwood), together with green anise, sweet fennel, and other medicinal and culinary herbs. It traditionally has a natural green color but may also be colorless, and is often used as a digestive. Absinthe is traditionally bottled at a high level of alcohol by volume, but it is normally diluted with water before consumed.

Gin
In tropical districts in the early 19th Century, such as India and other parts of the Britsh Empire, medicinal qunine was recommened to officials and solders to prevent maliria carried by mosquitos. It was mixed with soda and sugar to mask its bitter taste, creating tonic water. The British were then also the first to mix it with gin to create a refreshing cocktail.

Scotch
All whiskies are a distilled and barrel-aged spirit made from fermented grain. The most commonly used grains are corn, barley, rye, and wheat, which each have their own unique flavor profiles. Bourbon and Scotch have specific requirements as to which type of grain is used. Scotch is made from a single type of grain, usually barley, while Bourbon is made with a minimum 51% corn, and other grains are added to make the whiskey sweeter or spicy.
